Resource Photos for Portraits
Welcome to my commission page! Thanks for your interest in this very personal painting process. I use only the BEST in art supplies when I paint these special portraits. This is my favorite part about being an artist, I really enjoy working on these paintings and hope that you will take that journey with me someday :-). Please read below for the procedure I like to take. I do recommend that serious clients pay 30% down on their portraits. This helps me gather needed materials in order to complete the project. (see Commission Pricing)
I prefer working from photographs for my portraits. (especially with our furry faced loved ones! They just don't sit still long enough to paint! :-) )Whenever possible, I prefer to take the photographs. I'll provide recommendations, but I encourage your participation as well. If you live too far away, I will have to rely on your photographs. I would like to review those pictures beforehand in order to choose the best possible reference material. Please keep in mind, I use your photos as a REFERENCE. I am not a photo-realist painter. Yes, your paintings will look just like your loved one, but it will not be exact. And by exact, I mean I don't paint every hair. I have my own style and I think I do a pretty good job creating the personality and vibrance with each painting I do. Look through my portfoli and you can judge for yourself :-)
Process
Once the resource material is selected, you'll determine the medium and the sizeā¦and that will therefore determine the price. Then, I will get to work on the portrait. If you have an email address, please make sure I have it, I like to send progress shots of the painting. I find that it gets you more involved with the whole process. Past clients really loved this part!
Review
As the painting approaches completion, I'll ask you to participate in a "proofreading review", so that any necessary adjustments to the likeness can be made to your satisfaction. ** Again, I emphasize that I do not paint the photo you provide VER BATUM! Please do not expect it to be EXACTLY like the picture you provide!** Payment will be due once the painting is approved. I take payment via Paypal or by personal check. If paying by check, the painting will not be shipped until the check has cleared.
I prefer to paint on archival gallery wrapped canvas, of which there is no need to frame unless you want to (for pastels, I use an acid free archival ampersand pastelbord and my watercolors, Ampersand Aquabord). I do not provide framing for my art unless specifically asked. There will be an additional charge for framing.
Delivery
Delivery arrangements are made in consultation with you. In general, you can expect your portrait to be ready for review about 60 days after photo selection. If you live nearby, I can hand deliver the painting or you may come by the studio to pick it up. If shipping the painting, I use Priority Mail and it usually takes about 2 to 3 days for delivery. Shipping charge will be determined per order.
Overall, I look forward to creating a fantastic and memorable piece of art for you that will be cherished for years to come! :-)
